When this photo was taken in 1986 there were only 17 breeding pairs of Piping Plovers in all of the Great Lakes, all of which were on the US shoreline. Innocent fun! Watching the joy on a child’s face as she fed the birds. Thirty years later, we’ve learned so much more. Plover Lovers everywhere are hoping to get the message across that this activity puts the PIPL chicks at risk … as gulls prefer warm snacks.
